Mirelon then they do some more talking. The mixture of adult writing and young adult adventure just doesn’t work as well in a realistic setting as it does in Wrede’s Enchanted Forest books. It’s a perfect winter reread.

Fun read, liked the main characters a lot. When he catches her in the act, Kim thinks she’s done for. Like many concepts in the book world, “series” is a somewhat fluid and contested notion. The edition of Talking to Dragons is significantly different from the original edition, mostly to make it more consistent with the story in the other books.
Sadly, this book was a tedious excuse for the author to reach the climactic scene, which, apparently, she thought was funny and clever. As always Wrede gives real attention to all her characters minor and major and the dialogue feels genuine and the banter is enjoyable. This author can do much better. His magic is real.

Series was designed to cover groups of books generally understood as such see Wikipedia: The plotting, world building and character development are all better than average but it will be maiirelon before I bother to reread this and the next. That’s what a POV character is for, but not in such an obviously contrived way.

Basically, I love Patricia C Wrede. Book One covers her childhood, from the age of five when her parents move west to the edge of the expanding American frontier to shortly after her eighteenth birthday. Explore the Home Jagician Guide. And then they all Scooby Doo-ed.
I couldn’t wait for it to be over. I also finished it in the same day I started reading it–even if it was short–I didn’t do any of my homework, which is going to take another ho I was going to give this book four stars–probably should have given it four stars–but it appealed to my humorous nature.

I read this as part of the A Matter of Magic set, which has this and the next book in 1 volume; since I’m not done reading A Matter of Magic, and don’t know when I’ll get back to it, I’ll just talk about this individually for now. I have Wow, I haven’t disliked a book this much in a really long time.
