Such a good book, especially the last section “Animal Equality”. Many organizations that consider themselves animal rights advocates engage in old-speciesist campaigns, which reinforce the property status of nonhumans rather than promoting their emancipation.
To do either would involve the rights advocate in sacrificing the basic right of animals not to be property in order to secure a less-than-basic protoright that. There is a sense of urgency here, and no apologies for people who focus activism on nonhumans. The property owner may, of course, try to pass such costs along to consumers.
