Dexter does the emotionless sociopath thing just a little too well here. In the book, he lets his brother go presumably to show up again in some later installment. The answer feels a bit contrived, but will surprise most readers, and it’s a minor flaw in a gripping, deliciously offbeat novel that announces the arrival of a notable new talent.

This book is really an introduction to Dexter, his life, and his ways. His “Dark Passenger” is only referred to and never heard from, and his late father appears onscreen in visions or delusions; he acts as a mentor and a voice of reason for Dexter.

There’s really nothing scary about Dexter. After a while, Dexter even thinks that he might be killing these hookers himself in something like a fugue state.

Dexter has an interesting voice, and I love the idea that even if you’re that damaged and broken, you can still choose to be the best dexher of yourself. If you havent read this book series yet, you dont know what your missing!

I’m not sure I would have liked riding along in Dex’s head for another pages. The boys, who were 3 and 4, were found in a shipping container with the chainsaw-hacked up corpses, and were sitting in the victims’ congealed blood darklt about 36 hours when they were found by police.

Dexter eventually decides to help Deborah due to his moral codebut still feels a compelling pull to the killer due to similar desires. Because I have watched most of the first season of Dexter on dvd.

Dexter solves crimes by day and rids Florida of human waste by night. Dexter Morgan seems superficially normal, but he is very psychologically damaged and speaks mostly within his head. Jeff Lindsay does an excellent job of taking this emotionless monster who we should despise and hate, and actually gets the reader to root for him, to take his side, and has us hoping he catches the bad guys before the police do Spoilers below, so don’t continue reading if you don’t want to know what happens!

I’m not sure if fans of the show will like the book more, but I thought it was a pretty cool story.

And as bizarre as the idea was, I believe the costume was aimed at me. Doakes no first name established in this novel is a police Sergeant in Miami Dade Police Department’s Homicide Division who suspects Dexter is hiding something, but isn’t sure what.
