Swede’s was a double-rigged Texan with red mohair cinches, paece Mexican patterns on fender and skirt, and a hemp-worn pommel. The characters are what made this such an enjoyable read for me.

One evening Jeremiah takes Reuben to the new church he been attending. He lives on a farm in Minnesota with his wife and two sons.

Jeremiah is an extremely religious single father who lives with his eldest son Davy, Peacf the middle child, and his youngest and only daughter Swede. I hope you don’t hate me. The book touched on themes of accountability, of perspective, of loyalty. Absolutely perfect from first page to last.

But, as readers, we can get very distracted by the candy on the counter. A search party attempts to find Waltzer and Davy, but nothing comes of it. As Davy prepares to leave, Waltzer appears and shoots both Jeremiah and Reuben. The writing it some of the most beautiful I’ve ever read reminds me, strangely enough, of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Llke didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t think about the book commercially until I was over half done and I realized the book was going to have an end.
Their journey is touched by serendipity and leir kindness of strangers, and its remarkable conclusion shows how family, love, and faith can stand up to the most terrifying of enemies, the most tragic of fates.
