Peter Meineck brings considerable experience as a director of Aristophanic plays, most recently with the Aquila Theater Company, to this collection of three translations; indeed all three were first undertaken as performance texts and each one is preceded by an intriguing photograph from the Aquila production.

A good reading translation of The Clouds in this volume – Arrowsmith definitely renders the play readable and makes several aristpohanes the more topical jokes relevant to modern audiences. It is heartening to find the Aristophanic spirit alive and well amidst the greyness of present-day political correctness.

About 11 of his works are known in full, and they are the only plays of the “Old Comedy” style to have birrds.
